Where Do Millions of Pounds of Medical Waste Come From?
| Stericycle incinerators burn 21-27+ million pounds of medical
waste in Haw River, NC every year. Stericycle trucks most of it
from the eastern half of the United States.
NC sent 45% of the total (2009-2010). Out-of-state amounts are steadily rising.
NOTE: For this most recent year (2009-10) Stericycle burned 27.2 million pounds
from 22 states/jurisdictions. This is the largest amount in the history of this facility.
